Northwestern University in Qatar is nearing completion on its new campus building in Doha’s Education City. Construction on the building continues apace, with a likely opening during the 2016-17 school year.
The design
Architect Antoine Predock
The state-of-the-art NU-Q building was designed by distinguished American architect Antoine Predock. Predock traveled around the world, deriving inspiration from desert structures to give NU-Q’s new building a look and feel appropriate to Qatar’s culture, climate, and location.
LEED Gold rating
The four-story building is more than 400,000 square feet and has achieved a LEED Gold rating, a mark of quality and achievement in green building construction. LEED certification means healthier, more productive places, and reduced stress on the environment by encouraging energy- and resource-efficiency.
What's inside?
The new NU-Q building is designed to facilitate the functions and purposes of a modern school of media and communication, global and digital in all of its concerns. It features three video production studios, two 150-person lecture halls, a black-box theater, a large events hall, a multimedia newsroom, a research library, a gallery, classroom spaces, student life facilities, a conference center, a VIP welcoming space, office suites and more.
When will it open?
The building is currently under construction, and will likely open during the 2016-17 school year.
Where is it located?
The new NU-Q building is located in Doha, Qatar, on the Education City campus, on the corner of Slope roundabout, across from Sidra Medical Center, and next to Georgetown and the Faculty of Islamic Studies buildings.
