Cross-registration
NU-Q students can cross-register to take classes at any of the other five American universities located in Education City:
- Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar: computer science, business administration, information systems
- Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar: international politics, economics, history
- Texas A&M University at Qatar: electrical, mechanical, chemical and petroleum engineering
- Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar: graphic design, interior design, fashion design
- Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar: medicine and health

Independent studies
399 Independent Studies are available, by petition, to juniors and seniors who have a B or better average. As the title implies, such work involves the independent investigation of topics not normally covered by the curriculum. Independent studies must involve careful faculty supervision and typically culminate in a written report.
