Safety
Northwestern University in Qatar is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment. Our HSSE and facilities staff ensure that emergency procedures are in place.
ID Requirements
NU-Q staff, faculty and students are required to show their NU-Q ID to security staff upon entrance to the CMUQ building. Visitors may obtain a guest badge upon entrance.
Staff, faculty, students and visitors must wear their ID card at all times unless equipment is being used or activities are being undertaken which would make it dangerous to wear an ID card. You may be asked by NU-Q facilities management or QF HSSE security staff to show your ID card if it is not visible. If you are not in possession of your NU-Q ID you will be required to obtain a visitor's badge from the building entrance.
If you have lost your NU-Q ID please contact facilities management immediately at facilitiesrequests@qatar.northwestern.edu.
What to do in case of fire
If you discover a fire:
- Close the door where the fire is located
- Activate the nearest manual call point and contact QF security at 4454 0999
- Raise a fire alarm
If the building fire alarm sounds:
- Evacuate the building using the nearest safe fire exit
- Use the stairs—do not use the elevators/lifts
- Assist people with disabilities or children as required
- Assemble at one of the Assembly Points and report to a fire warden
- Remain at the Assembly Point and only re-enter as directed by safety staff
Fire prevention quick tips:
- Watch out for hot plugs and sockets, fuses that blow for no reason, flickering lights, and scorch marks on sockets or plugs.
- Check electrical leads and plugs or wear and tear and faulty wiring. Frayed leads or exposed internal wires are fire risks.
- Don't overload sockets
